About Us

About Our Karate Style

Our style, Shōrin-ryū Matsumura Seito, is a heavily-traditional Okinawan Karate, based on short stances and a mix of hard and soft techniques. We teach under the ISMSKF, or International Shorin-ryu Matsumura Seito Karate-do Federation, and are based out of Clearwater, FL.

About the Instructors

Sensei Scott and Sensei Kelsi have backgrounds from different dojos, but come from the same style. Sensei Kelsi’s teacher, Shihan Greg Lazarus (hachidan, 8th degree), runs a school in Kittery, Maine: New England Okinawan Karate Dojo, while Sensei Scott’s teacher, Sensei Mike Abrams (rokudan, 6th degree), runs a dojo in Deltona, Florida: Okinawan Martial Arts of FL.

Scott and Kelsi have been training together since 2004 and are now happily married. They also enjoy traveling the world, with past trips including Ireland, Scotland, England, Canada, and Iceland. They are excited at the international federation connections that will allow karate training abroad for their future travels and have set sights on Argentina, Puerto Rico, and Italy adventures in the next few years.
